Podcast Host has the Audacity to be a Woman

If you look back at the last decade, it’s clear that the rise of podcasts was always inevitable. With more information than ever flying across the internet and audio equipment easier than ever to attain, just about any schmuck with some technical know-how can now talk about any subject their heart desires and likely find an audience. Not only that, but with companies like Blue Apron and Casper Mattresses funding them through advertising campaigns, there’s never been a better time to monetize podcasting. However, despite all of this opportunity, there is one thing that I still can’t believe about the world of podcast. Something that aches me to my core. I’m of course referring to podcast hosts who have the audacity to be women. What’s that all about?

It all started when I took a break from my usual podcasts like The Joe Rogan Experience and My Brother, My Brother, and Me. I had heard from a colleague that I should check out this podcast known as Serial. Actually, it wasn’t just one colleague, it was almost all of them. From what they had told me, it sounded like something that would be right up my alley. True crime has always been something I have found fascinating.

But then, as I sat down with a bowl of popcorn and my special noise cancelling headphones to begin the pod, I was immediately taken aback by the noise coming through the speakers. What was this? In MY podcast? I could not believe what I was hearing.

Now, you may be jumping at the opportunity to call me a misogynist and a caveman, but trust me, I am not referring to the podcast host’s gender. What I am about to say is incredibly scientific and backed up by research. Trust me, I would never stoop so low.

So anyways, back to what I was saying. The first thing I hate about this host is her voice, obviously. There’s just something about it that irks me. I’m sure there is a nice, short word beginning with ‘s’ that I could use to describe it, but it’s escaping me now. Needless to say, her tone was my first red flag.

The second thing I hate, and I mean hate, about this podcast host is how much she knows about the subject. I’m not coming here to learn, I’m here to be entertaining. I just think that if you are going to learn so much about a subject and spend time making a production out of it, you should learn how to talk to me like an adult. I can’t tell you how many times I tried to yell at her in response, only to remember that I was listening to a podcast. Who does she think she is, anyway?

The final thing I hate about this podcast host is her gen- I mean, her technical capabilities. Yeah, that’s it. It’s definitely not just because she’s a woman, she just needs to learn how to use a mic. Although, writing that down, it did kind of sound right.

Hmm. Am I a misogynist? Nah, I probably just have exceptional taste. I bet that’s what it is. Needless to say, I don’t think this podcast is for me.
